Pese a la hegemonía de Flash y a algunos rumores por ahí de que Microsoft abandonaría su plataforma Silverlight para privilegiar HTML5, ayer en la conferencia “Silverlight Firestarter event” realizada en Redmond, Microsoft anuncio la próxima iteración del competidor de Flash, Silverlight 5 que según ha informado la compañía de Redmond está programado para ser lanzado en la segunda mitad del 2011 y que desde ya promete 40 nuevas características, entre las que destacan las que a continuación se resumen.
Silverlight 5 promises to bring over 40 new features, the highlights being:
– Support for running Silverlight applications with desktop features in the browser
– Support for 64bit operating systems
– Hardware Decode and presentation of H.264 improve performance for lower-power devices to render high-definition video using GPU support.
– The TrickPlay function allows video to be played at different speeds and supports fast-forward and rewind. At up to twice the speed, audio pitch correction allows users to watch videos while preserving a normal audio pitch.
– Improved power awareness that prevents the screen saver from being shown while watching video and allows the computer to sleep when video is not active.
– Remote control support
– Digital rights management advancements allow seamless switching between DRM media sources.
La versión Beta de Silverlight 5, está programada para la primera mitad del 2011, mientras la versión final llegará a finales del próximo año.
